Blurring Boundaries Living in the Tropics

This book showcases the works of Razin Architects, an award-winning Malaysian architectural firm based in Johor Bahru, headed by its founder Ar. Razin Mahmood, FPAM. The book features the evolution of the practice. From private residences to small offices, hotels and religious buildings, the selected works illustrate an attempt to create feel-good spaces that are responsive to the tropical climate. Maximising natural ventilation by having large floor to ceiling openings and installing louvres as light filters are common design responses. Some of Razin Architects’ award-winning works illustrated in the book are Baan Tara, Surau Nusa Idaman, and Denai House. Blurring Boundaries demonstrates a passionate desire to explore ‘in-between’ space in the tropics. It also exemplifies the firm’s absorption of modern influences while remaining sensitive to the local environment and social context.
