Very few things in our everyday life thrive by doing absolutely nothing. The floor might be a rare exception; devoid of vitality or ambition—characteristics at odds with a society obsessed with progress—it remains unapologetically passive. Despite its inertia, the floor is largely ignored and relegated to the background. Its size, comparable to the ground outside, suggests it should be a subject of interest, yet expectations for it are pragmatic: it should not shake, give way, or tilt. People often expect the floor to be flat, as unevenness can cause discomfort. 'Science of the Secondary: Floor' is the fifteenth edition in a series of ongoing research conceived and developed by Atelier HOKO.
