Kitab ini ditulis oleh Syekh Faqih Maskumambang sebagai bantahan dari kitab Risalah al-Jasus fi Bayani Hukm an-Naqus Kiai Hasyim Asy’ari. Beliau berdua berbeda pandangan dalam penggunaan kentongan sebagai tanda masuknya waktu sholat. Syekh Hasyim Asy'ari berpendapat bahwa kentongan tidak dapat digunakan menjadi pewarta masuk waktu shalat, dengan dasar tidak ditemukannya dalil yang mendukungnya. Syekh Faqih, sebaliknya, menyatakan bahwa kentongan boleh saja digunakan, dengan qiyas (disamakan) terhadap beduk yang juga digunakan untuk fungsi yang sama.
