Returning to update “SINGAPORE, Sketches of the Lion City,” artist and illustrator Lorette E. Roberts captures the variety of flowers and trees blooming in modern Singapore. The illustrations include recent additions such as Supertrees, Gardens by the Bay, and Marina Bay Sands, alongside well-known landmarks like Raffles Hotel, Boat Quay, Orchard Road, Sentosa, and the UNESCO Botanic Gardens. The book reflects the diverse architectural styles prevalent in the city, including shophouses, colonial bungalows, ‘Black and White’ homes, and the refurbished Fulerton Heritage Bay area, along with other civic buildings. Roberts also highlights unusual sights such as ancient houses on stilts, a tree walk, organic gardens, the charm of Tiong Bahru, Ang Mo Kio’s Sunday Bird Club, a tiger-car replica, ethnic fabric designs, hedgehog pastries, and vibrant street art. The book features her trademark hidden snail on every page.
