The Colour of Twilight

Yeng Pway Ngon was widely regarded as one of Singapore's most important Sinophone writers and had won the Singapore Literature Prize three times. His final novel, The Colour of Twilight, was published in Chinese in 2019 and will be available in English in Jeremy Tiang’s translation. The novel is an elegy for its protagonist, an aging widower who questions whether he has wasted his life on literature, and also laments the traditions and community lost amidst capitalism and modernization in Singapore. The story explores themes of life, memory, and cultural change through the reflections of an artist in the space between history and personal memory. The author received numerous awards, including the Cultural Medallion for Literature and the S.E.A. Write Award, and published a wide range of poetic, prose, and critical works. The translator Jeremy Tiang is a novelist and playwright, renowned for translating over 30 books from Chinese, and has received multiple literary awards for his work.
