The Missing Anthology: Stories From Singapore's Sex Workers

The Missing Anthology presents fifteen bold new voices from sex workers, whose writings resist society’s simplistic assumptions about sex work. These works recount lived experiences, share struggles and triumphs, and imagine different futures for the sex industry. Born from an open call and writing workshops organized by Project X, the anthology features pieces that experiment with form, genre, and perspective. It includes stories such as two chickens discussing dreams while blowing up a condom, reflections on domme-ing and servicing second-hand hearts, essays on activism and its obstacles, short fiction exploring fantasies of violent liberation, and tender letters to loved ones and younger selves. The collection aims to re-centre sex workers’ voices from the margins, addressing issues of inequality, social and economic mobility, stigmatization, and safety fueled by misconceptions about sex workers and their profession. It provides an authentic and diverse glimpse into the joy, rage, hope, and humanity of sex workers’ lives, highlighting their experiences and aspirations. The anthology also challenges society’s ability or inability to accept its own desires and the people who work to fulfill them, revealing the sweeping diversity of experiences, motivations, and lives among sex workers across different eras and societal contexts. It seeks to shed light on the misunderstood labor class and their stories, offering a vital perspective on complex social issues.
